When we were preparing for a weekend to Atlanta...and 14 hours in the car! I looked up car games.. my favorite was a Country Name Game. It starts off with a Country and within the set time limit the next person has to name another country that starts with the LAsT letter of the previously named country. E.G. NigeriA. AlgierS. SudaN. NorwaY. YemeN...and so on until someone is stumped.

Have a great weekend!

My favorite car game is...sleeping. If can't just go to sleep then I would have to say singing. Its not really a game but its fun.

Mindy and I always play the liscense plate game...you can only mention each state once, and the first person to call it out upon seeing it gets a point. We usually play for something, too. Only problem is, the game is biased against the driver, which always happens to be me. Is that fair?

We played the ABC game. You had to find words on billboards and road signs that started with each letter of the alphabet and you had to find them in order. The first person to Z won. If you passed a cop car though you had to start back over at A. That was always disappointing especially if you had just found your word that started with X. Happy Friday!

You made that!? Super cute. You are good.

Ummm, I have a lot of favorite car games. Darin and I make them up all the time and they are so much fun. I think one of my favorites is we go through the alphabet, alernating, and come up with different things that start with that letter.
For example: Restaurants through the Alphabet...
A - Applebees
B - Burger King
and then we'll do different subjects through the alpha... movies, names, cities, etc. It's a lot of fun. We play it a lot!

We guess at the beginning of the trip how many golden arches we'll see on the road (this includes billboards, arches actually on the buildings, etc.). Then we count, count, count. Whoever spots the arch first gets to count that as his/her point. At the end of the trip, each kid gets a quarter for every arch they spotted, and the person who comes closest to the actual number gets a special treat - maybe a silver dollar, or a coupon for ice cream whenever they get a hankerin', etc. This helps them "earn" some spending money for treats while vacationing!

I love road trip games! I love the license plate game and the alphabet game (spotting different letters on signs), the alphabet rhyme: you know where you say, Hi my name is Ashley and my husbands name is Allen and we live in Alabama and we sell alligators! I love that one!

the stationary is so pretty!!

well, my favorite car game is "honesty hour" where everyone gets to ask questions - no boundaries - and you have to answer. kinda like truth or dare...but just truth :)

Oh, those are so cute!

I'd have to agree with Meg...sleeping. :) I don't know, we don't usually really play car games, except for sometimes counting a certain color of car or something. Otherwise, sleeping, or if I'm driving, listening to the radio. :)

Those flowers are pretty too.

I spy. My kids loved and my grandson loves it.

We always use to play "The Alphabet Game" in the car. Find the letter of the alphabet, in order, on signs and billboards. The word has to start with the letter. Except for maybe X or something like that...IT WAS FUN!

Eron isn't a huge fan...and now that I think about it, it isn't as fun as an adult, but man as a kid it was great! And kept our attention for a long time!

First, your husband IS amazing! He knows his wife well...Colorful gerber daisies! They are beautiful!!! Congrats on a wonderful 3rd anniversary celebration!!!

Now, onto the important stuff...like winning! :D My most favorite car game has to be... car bingo! I LOVED that game when I was growing up and the G's carted me around on many a travel. Grandma always had her "bag of goodies" and it never was void of the ever popular car bingo. I loved how the little windows of green or red closed over the object. Cool! It made those long drives to Colorado or Florida a bit more bearable on the 2 lane highways back in yesteryear... you know, the black and white days! Ha!

Well, I would love to win this beautifully hand crafted stationary on "special paper"! You are awesome! I love reading your blog for I can ALWAYS hear your voice in my head! :D And when I come down in 2 weeks...I want to eat at the blue dog cafe AND I do want to return to the "paper store" that Garnetta took us to downtown...if she is reading this and wants to join in the fun...please come along! :D Have a great and relaxing weekend...SuperStev has returned! I have missed him greatly this week. Praise the Lord for his safe return. Love, mom xooxoxoxo

When I was younger we would do "Caringo" --Bingo in the car-- Instead of the numbers there would be road signs, buildings, cars--different things you would see during your trip. The 'winner' would get to pick where we ate. It was fun, definitely will use it when I have older kids. Cuteee Stationary, too!

I love the stationary! My favorite game is " If You Could..." You ask a question like If you were on a island and could only have three books, what would it be? It's a great way to get know people.

I mentioned you on my blog too!

Well, we have two favorite car games: "I Spy with my Little Eye," and "The Song Game." The first one involves thinking up an object and identifying it briefly: "I spy with my little eye, something that is pink!" Then your fellow travelers have to guess the object. In the second game, the person who goes first says the name of a song; for example, "She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain." The next person has to think up the name of a song that starts with the last letter of the previous song; for example, "Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey, Good Bye." BTW: Love the flowers, and I'll link to your giveaway!

Just a few weeks ago Michael's mom went with us to the outlet malls to buy baby stuff. The whole way up there she gave us a list of things to find (i.e. a u-haul, a UPS truck, etc.) For each one that we found we earned money to spend at the outlet mall. It was so fun! Who says you can't play when your are an adult :).

Allison, I absolulty love your blog... wish I could come up with something so clever...

My favorite game when traveling is the game where you go through the alphabet and have to find that letter in something you see while driving down the road. We were underpriveliged children ... :)

I'll mention you in my blog too!!

wow, you are uber talented!!! i love the stationary :) anyways, when i say seminary, i mean Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky...but i have friends who go to Southern! okay, my favorite car game (which i don't play much anymore since i'm 25) doesn't really have a name, but its super fun...everyone decides on a category, like "fruits" or "stores" or anything you want, then the first person says something in that category starting with the first letter of the alphabet (like apple for fruit) and sings "apple apple bo bapple, banana fanna fo fapple, mi my mo mapple, apple...the second person has to come up with something for the letter b, the third person letter c, and so on...its really hard if you get to like, letter y and can't think of something in the category! so there's my answer...thanks for the sweet comment on my blog also :) have a great day!!!

In days of old, when gas was 25 cents a gallon, we played Left Right or Straight Ahead. Of course we did not have a definite destination in mind. We would just come to an intersection and ask the kids L, R, or SH. We would end up in some of the most interesting out of the way places and have to remember how we got there!
I also liked Silent Monkey, you know the one where the first to talk was the loser. We used that one on long trips when we wanted them to calm down and sleep. We drove the AlCan many times and it was very useful during those trips.
Happy Anniversary to you also. I am going to link you now.

My girls love to play "Punch Buggy". You know, when you see a VW bug you yell "PUNCH BUGGY". You're supposed to "punch" another person, but we don't do that!

Sometimes we play for dollar bills (if we're going somewhere where the girls can buy souvenirs) or we play for a large ice cream instead of a small, or sometimes we just play for bragging rights!!

It keeps the girls head out of their Nintendo DS's!!!!

Have a great weekend!

Gorgeous flowers. Thanks for the sweet comment on my blog.

Okay, we always played "Zip" on our way to my grandparent's house. The first one to say zip when they saw a white horse, white car, white donkey, a man with a white beard.....lame yes but killed time, LOL!

We like to try to go through the alphabet and find words on billboards or signs starting with each letter. We usually play as a contest and it goes great until we get to X...there aren't too many signs out there starting with X :) (at that point we usually break the "rules" and use semi-trucks because there's an Xpress semi company) :)
Love your blog! And your sisters...Kendall taught one of my little guys at VBS all week!Hopefully I'll get to meet you someday too!

On a recent trip to Gatlinburg, my husband and I played a version of the alphabet game. We made a list, A - Z, on a piece of paper, then as we flipped through radio stations tried to hear something by an artist or band name that started with each letter. You could do it with song titles also. It can be a challenge to find a station you like as your passing through different states.

Oh, and I so want to win this gorgeous stationary.

Toodles~

Ha! This question brings back fond memories of trip to Ben and Laura's wedding! I must say my new favorite game in the car is roadkill bingo with the Parkers and my hilarious hubby! Seriously - never a dull moment with Dustin!

Hope to catch up soon! It's been way to long!

Hi-
My favorite car game is the ABC memory game. Someone says a words that starts with A. And then, the next person has to say the word that starts with A and a words that starts with B. And then, the first person says the A words, the B words, and a new C word. And so on and so forth, untill someone gets to Z. Whoever, can repeat the whole thing A-Z wins!!

William, Megan and Avery said...

Let's see... I haven't played car games in a really long time. William and I either sleep, talk, or sing :)

BUT the last time I played a car game was when William and I carpooled to Houston from Shawnee with a fellow OBUer and played "If you were ______ what would you be?".. For example, If you were cereal what would you be? I would definitely be lucky charms... or maybe fruit loops... My problem with the game was coming up with one answer!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the stationery!

We play a fast paced I Spy game, looking for landmarks, signs, other cars, license plates, you name it!

I love to play cards in the car--speed or rummy. My husband and I also read a book aloud...maybe it's not a game, but it makes the time go by faster!

My favorite car game was the one where you had a little cardboard game with pictures and you could slid the red plastic thing across the picture when you saw it... you know what I mean? My brother and I used to play that and the first one to get all of them won! Good times:)

Unknown said...

I always liked "slug bug" where you get to slug someone sitting next to you when you see a car with one headlight or an out of state license tag or a VW Bug or whatever "rules" the car decides.

Angie said...

Our latest game is "Doing whatever it takes to keep Caroline entertained in the Car!"

But, I think we just about played every game that's been mentioned here!

Delaina said...

We play name that tune by humming the song. We don't take many road trips lately though - but it makes me want to now!

Shala said...

We do the "I went to the store" game. You go in alphabetical order and as you go around you still have to start with what the first person said and then add yours on at the end.

We also do "I went to the zoo and saw" and do animals.

Its so much fun watching my kids try to remember each animal we said in the alphabet.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
I am so excited. I can hardly wait to write someone a real letter and put it in the mail. I think I will write to my 87 year old Aunt. She will not have a computer in her home. It was hard enough getting her to get an answering machine, which she only did after my Uncle passed. She loves getting letters and will adore the stationary. When she opens it she will think I made it and alas I will have to tell her the truth.
Thank you again:}
